Hi parents,
Below is a letter from administration regarding student drop off in the mornings. Please read the same so that you are aware of the changes. Sedalia Park Community, Our school’s mission is “Every Student. Every Day.” That statement applies to every aspect of our school, especially ensuring that our students are safe. At this time, there is a concern for student safety in the parking lot that faces our front door, located on Utica Dr. That parking lot is our bus parking lot only, and is not to be used for student drop off in the morning or pick up at dismissal. We do allow some of our students with disabilities to use this parking lot in the morning which is indicated with a colored card from Sedalia Park Administration. On any given morning, we have nearly twenty buses and day-care vans driving through this lot and dropping off students at the front door. Due to the high volume of bus and day care traffic, it is unsafe for students to walk through this parking lot. Despite our best efforts, students are consistently let out of cars and sent to the front door unattended. Due to this increasing safety concern, it is necessary to make some changes to our school procedures.
Here’s our learning for the week!
Writing We will be learning the nuances of opinion writing and the specific components namely the introduction, reasons, examples, and conclusion. I will review the rubric with them to help with the writing. Reading We will work on reading parts of a book to build comprehension, by completing different activities. Again, the idea is to integrate reading and social studies. Social Studies We are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and what it was like in the United States when he lived compared to how it is now. However, all the learning will take place in inquiry stations such as a photography station and slogan station. This is one of my favorite areas to teach as it involves team work among students! I always look forward to the rich discussions that take place in the classroom. Math Our focus here will be on adding three or four 2-digit numbers. I will model the partial-sums strategy. Thanks! Hi parents,

Please sign the white signature card on the 2nd 9 weeks slot and return it. You may keep the report card. Tomorrow, I will also be giving the reading and math pre-tests for this quarter.
Also, I will be sending home the Six Flags Read to Succeed Program letter and reading log tomorrow. Feb. 27th is the deadline to return the forms to me. This is an easy way for your child to earn a free ticket to Six Flags! Here’s our learning for the next 2 weeks: Writing We are beginning a new unit on opinion writing. This is a very structured type of writing. We are looking for students to introduce a topic, state their opinion, give 3 reasons to support their opinion, and provide a conclusion. I will be using several mentor texts to model the same, starting with some basic letter writing techniques. Reading Our focus is on summarizing as a strategy to aid with reading comprehension. I will use texts from our Benchmark program and other mentor texts to model the same. Social Studies We will be learning about Martin Luther King and Jackie Robinson and what it was like in the United States when they lived compared to how it is now. I will integrate this with reading and students will get an opportunity to work in stations. Math This week I will be reviewing 2-digit addition and subtraction strategies before moving on to 3-digit ones next week. Can’t wait to see my kiddos... |
